As far as raunchy college sex comedies go, I think this one falls somehwere on the higher end of the scale, but just slightly above the average mark. It's a good movie, but it doesn't quite have the intelligence or amazingness to be at the level of true satirical brilliance like Animal House. It's a fun movie though, and deep down, I think we can all relate, maybe not to being full on nerds, but to definitely being picked on at some time or another. I myself fully admit to being a nerd, but I object to being compared to the nerds in this film. If anyrhing, these guys aren't really nerds, but super mega geeks and dweebs. Or they are nerds, but they are the stereptypical kind who give us "somewhat normal" nerds a bad name and reputation.
This film tries to add a little depth but having some diatribes on being a minority that could have really been potent, but mostly come off as a litle cheesy and pedictable . There are some parallels to stuff like Civil Rights, but it's played lightly and, being an 80s comedy, there are some jokes that don't really fly nowadays which kinda undercuts what parallels one might try to pull out of it. God, I'm rambling now, and making more out of this than I probably need to. Basically this is the classic stroy of a bunch of marginalized nerds who finally decide to get revenge on the people who make their lives miserable. There's a lot of good moments, most of them really silly, but some of the jokes are actually pretty smart. The cast is pretty good, and I really liked seeing Bernie Casey, John Goodman, and James Cromwell show up.
All of the nerds are pretty likeable, but I think my favorite is probablyCurtis Armstrong's Booger- the rebellious bad ass of the group. As I said, I don't think this film is really terrific or anything, but it's funny and has a nice knd of charm to it. Parents need to know that students binge drink, and smoke cigarettes and pot in this R-rated college movie. There's a strong emphasis on "getting laid" throughout the film, which includes scenes in which students make out and engage in heavy petting.
The panty raid scene includes full female nudity, and the frat boys expose their bare behinds in a mooning scene. The nerds install hidden video cams in a sorority house so they can watch them undress. Profanity isn't excessive, but a few bad words and suggestive phrases are uttered.
There's no bloody violence, but much of the story line centers on getting revenge. There are many stereotypes targeting Asians, gays, fat girls, and more. The story shows the unfair treatment of people considered outsiders, and in the end, emphasizes the acceptance of outsiders. Nerds unite in this hilarious comedy about college freshmen Gilbert and Lewis , who find themselves in a battle against a jock-filled fraternity. After the jocks take over the freshman dorms, Gilbert, Lewis and a rag-tag group of genius outcasts decide to form their own fraternity.
Led by insolent buffoon, Stan , the jocks of Alpha Beta fraternity and their sister sorority try everything they can to ensure the nerds are not granted fraternity status. Pushed to the breaking point, the nerds resort to desperate measures to get back at the jocks and their sister sorority. The nerds turn peeping tom and install hidden video cameras so they can watch naked women and a nerd wearing a mask pretends to be Stan so he can have sex with Stan's girlfriend, among other sneaky modes of revenge. At Adams College, the jocks rule the school from their house on high, the Alpha Beta fraternity. So when a group of socially-challenged misfits try to go Greek, they're instantly rejected by every house on campus.
Deciding to start their own fraternity to protect their outcast brothers, the campus nerds soon find themselves in a battle royale as the Alpha Betas try to crush their new rivals. 'Revenge of the Nerds' is easily one of the greatest comedies of all time. Released in 1984, the film follows a group of nerdy friends as they navigate the treacherous social waters of college.
It's been almost 30 years since this classic film hit theaters, so let's take a look back at the cast of the film and see what they're up to now. During the 80's there have been countless teen comedies that have made their mark. Revenge of the Nerds is a fun and entertaining comedy that has a good plot with effective humor throughout. There are things that could have been improved upon, but overall this is a pleasant comedy that is worth seeing.
This is among the better films dealing with college of the 1980's, and it is a film that should be seen if you loved movies like Animal House and Porky's. At times the film does lack, but the characters make it enjoyable to watch and it manages to overcome its flaws due to the interesting characters. Revenge of the Nerds is a good film worth seeing and it is a standout film from the 80's. Although there are some imperfect moments throughout the film, the humor works well enough to keep you interested from start to finish. Animal House is of course the best college comedy, but this film would come in at a close second. There are plenty of good bits here that will surely make you laugh, but I do believe that the film could have used a bit more work in terms of the script, but as a whole it works and this is among the better comedies of this period.
This is one of the few college comedies that has some of the most memorable characters and for that, it remains a classic college comedy that will surely entertain you. The cast make it a fun film to watch and it is definitely a fine 80's comedy that will entertain you from start to finish. The movie – a teen sex comedy about a group of nerds and a jock fraternity – was a box office hit and soon spawned a run of sequels. Revenge of the Nerdsis a 1984 American teen comedy film directed by Jeff Kanew and starring Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley, and Bernie Casey. The film's plot chronicles a group of nerds at the fictional Adams College trying to stop the ongoing harassment by the jock fraternity, the Alpha Betas, in addition to the latter's sister sorority, Pi Delta Pi.
One can only imagine the fun he had on set for the party-hardy comedy—particularly in that up close and personal conversation with the sisters from Omega Mu. It was at least enough for Cassese to return to the role for the first Nerds sequel, 1987's Nerds In Paradise, though not enough for the young star to want to keep making movies. He all but gave up on the big screen after his Nerds days, preferring a life in the theater.
Revenge of the Nerds is a 1984 American teen comedy film directed by Jeff Kanew and starring Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley, and Bernie Casey. Casey launched his acting career in 1969 with his debut role in Guns of the Magnificent Seven, the sequel toThe Magnificent Seven. Over the past four decades he starred in roles both on television and film, including acting in several Seventies blaxploitation films and playing the lead as a widower in the 1979 television series Harris and Company. "It would be goofy enough if they just did a panty raid and played it really nerdy," Zacharias told GQ. Back in 2006, there was a plan to remake 1984's college comedy Revenge Of The Nerds. Actors were cast, locations scouted, and it was all set to shoot until the campus chosen for the film, Atlanta's Emory University, pulled out.
It never returned in that form, but now Seth MacFarlane and twins Keith and Kenny Lucas are planning another new version, with a reboot in the works. Seth MacFarlane is reviving the age old rivalry between jocks and nerds. The comedic actor is developing a reboot of the seminal '80s comedy "Revenge of the Nerds" at 20th Century Studios. Although he is shown on the DVD cover of the fourth film, he is not seen nor mentioned in it. This is also the last Nerds film to include Anthony Edwards as Gilbert and Andrew Cassese as Wormser.
They are played by other actors in the third film and stay offscreen in the fourth and final film. The Alpha Betas, led by star quarterback Stan Gable, are irked by the nerds' success, and Stan sets his fellow members to pull pranks against the nerds, which includes throwing a rock through the window saying "Nerds, get out". The nerds try to get campus police to help, but the campus cops are constrained by the Greek Council that adjudicates all such pranks, of which Stan is currently president. The nerds decide to seek membership on the Greek Council by joining a national fraternity. After 29 rejection letters, the only one that considers them is the black fraternity Lambda Lambda Lambda (Tri-Lambs), led by U.N.
Jefferson is about to refuse ("After all, you're nerds.") when a fine-print-reading nerd points out that Tri-Lamb bylaws require him to give the nerds a probationary period. The nerds set up a large party with the Omega Mu sorority, similarly made up of nerds, including Gilbert's girlfriend Judy, and invite Jefferson to attend. The party is dull until Booger provides them with high quality marijuana.
The Alpha Betas and the Pi Delta Pis, the sorority which Stan's girlfriend Betty Childs belongs to, then disrupt the party by bringing and releasing pigs. The nerds exact revenge on both groups by pulling similar pranks. Impressed with the nerds' tenacity, Jefferson grants them full membership. The nerds are now in control of the university, as a result of Lewis Skolnick and the rest's actions in the two previous movies. A new generation of sportsmen arrive, however, determined on winning the school back.
The principle, himself an ex-nerd fighter, helps them, and the nerds return to suppression. Harold Skolnick needs help from his uncle Lewis, the hero of the first two movies. Lewis, however, are not too proud of his nerd past, and won't reveal any of it, much less help his nephew.
However, his wife makes him change his mind, and with help from his friends from the first two movies, they start the fight to win the school back, using classic nerd tricks. The original Revenge of the Nerds cast is reportedly reuniting and setting up a new movie. This summer marked the 35th anniversary of the first installment hitting theaters. The original movie is considered to be an 80s classic, but the sequels that followed, including made-for-TV movies were not received very well. In addition, looking back at the 1984 movie shows a different time in Hollywood and contains some pretty controversial scenes that some may call problematic these days.
However, it sounds like the gang wants to get together for a new movie. In one scenario, if an auction house and an auctioneer is present, winning live bids from Charitybuzz Live Bid lots are treated as "absentee" bids. This normally means that the Charitybuzz winning bid is placed in the auctioneers books as a bid. As the auctioneer conducts the auction, they will bring up and enter the Charitybuzz winning bid during the course of the auction as the current price or next minimum bid value approaches the Charitybuzz winner's bid amount.
In this scenario, other people in the real world room are expected to bid against the auctioneer, not the Charitybuzz winning bidder. If no one is bidding in the room, the auctioneer will typically keep bidding up the price until the Charitybuzz Live Bid winner wins the real world auction. The comedy — which premiered on July 20, 1984 — was directed by Jeff Kanew and was about a group of, well, nerds at Adams College. They are constantly bullied and are considered outcasts but they've had enough and decide to fight back against the jock fraternity, the Alpha Betas. Revenge of the Nerds starred then-unknowns Anthony Edwards, Robert Carradine, Curtis Armstrong, James Cromwell, Larry B. Scott, John Goodman, and Timothy Busfield.
In the movie, the jock-filled Alpha Beta fraternity bullies the geeks on the campus of Adams College, so to fight back, they form a frat chapter under black fraternity Lambda Lambda Lambda (Tri-Lambs), and take down the jocks. The movie's plot and title come from a magazine article published around that time about Silicon Valley innovators—who just happened to be nerds. Jeff Kanew directed the original "Revenge of the Nerds," which starred Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley and Bernie Casey. The raunchy comedy followed a group of college nerds who spar with the jock fraternity the Alpha Betas.
So much so that one has to admire the actor that played him—especially since Scott is not a gay man. Scott ran with it, reprising the role in all three Revenge Of The Nerds sequels, and he starred in a couple of other '80s classics to boot, includingThe Karate Kid, Iron Eagle, andSpaceCamp. These days, Scott spends his time teaching his craft to up-and-coming actors at W.I.T. Filmwerks.
Over the past 30 years, the former teen star has used the kind eyes and calm demeanor that landed him his Nerds role to bring warmth, depth and intellect to virtually every role he's played. He's also spent time on the stage, racing cars and flying planes. He played Beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti in 2013's underrated Big Sur.
He did some voice work as Echo in Disney's animated adventure Planes that same year. He even took his talents behind the camera to direct the 2016 comedy My Dead Boyfriend. While his current look is a long way form the shaggy-haired Gilbert, we can't help but feel he's looking more dignified than ever these days. Head nerd Lewis Skolnick is played by Robert Carradine who went on to reprise his role in the three Revenge Of The Nerds sequels and would later play Hilary Duff's dad in Lizzie McGuire. In Revenge Of The Nerds, Lewis is infatuated by popular sorority sister and jock Stan's girlfriend Betty Childs which leads to the movie's infamous rape-by-deception scene.
Geeky college students Gilbert and Lewis are evicted from their dormitory when the Alpha Betas -- who recently burned down their own fraternity house by accident -- confiscate the building. When the college forces the freshmen to live in the gym, Gilbert, Lewis and their fellow dorks relocate to a run-down house. When the Alpha Betas, led by jock Stan , repeatedly humiliate them, the nerds plot revenge.
Different sources report the film's budget as anywhere from $6 million to $8 million, though even $8 million was a low budget for a feature film of the time. Exterior scenes such as the arrival of the nerds at college and the fraternity houses were filmed at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. The original Nerds residence, from which they were ousted by the Alpha Betas, was actually Cochise Hall. Their subsequent residence was University of Arizona's Bear Down Gymnasium. The original Alpha Beta fraternity house that is burned down was filmed at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house , which at the time was the Alpha Gamma Rho house.
It may not be a great piece of cinema, but it is quite good entertainment. In addition to Lewis and Booger, most of the other nerds from the 1984 film are back. There's Lamar (Larry B. Scott), the flamboyantly gay nerd; Poindexter , the hypochondriacal nerd with bad eyesight; and Wormser , the youngest of the nerds. Even Gilbert, the most normal nerd, pops up now and again, though the sparing way the character is used suggests that the actor who plays him, Anthony Edwards, was available for only a small part of the shooting schedule. Jefferson, head of the Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity, in Revenge of the Nerds. He starred as John Slade in the comedy blaxploitation parody film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka in 1988, and in 1989 he played high school teacher Mr. Ryan in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.
In this follow-up to Revenge of the Nerds, the nerdy frat boys from Lambda Lambda Lambda go to Ft. Lauderdale to a national frat conference where they again must outwit the thick-tongued jock frat-boys from their rival frat, the Alphas. At the same time, they attempt to hone their witty conversational skills with pretty girls. All the gang is back, including Louis , Booger , Lamar (Larry B. Scott), Poindexter and Gilbert . Revenge of the Nerds looked like a giant party, and for the most part, it really was.
Ted McGinley played college football star Stan Gable and noted that the party was happening in real-life as the cameras were rolling. "I mean, you just don't do that on movie sets. It was just so much fun, and I thought, 'It can't be better than this!'" Larry B. Scott, who played the iconic Lemar also spoke about a decent amount of cocaine consumed on the set. Hits all the classic 80's Comedy tropes and I used to absolutely love this movie. I haven't seen it for about 15 years because I knew it would hit different, but I had to bite the bullet and I'm glad I did.
So called nerds rule the world now and almost everything nerdy from the 80's is even more popular than ever before. Before the winning bidders bid or max bid amount is passed on, someone from Charitybuzz contacts that winner after the Charitybuzz lot closes and before the real world auction opens. This is to confirm if the bidder would like to increase their bid or max bid amount before it's entered into the real world auction.
